Samir’s documentary IRAQI ODYSSEY tells the story of his own diasporic family and in the telling he reconstructs a part of Iraqi history. With this he has laid a foundation.
We would like to re-tell the story of Iraq, for ultimately history is but a collection of smaller and larger stories. All your stories together make up the history of Iraq. This is about creating a personal, subjective history open to discovery.

Gulf War — Kuwait

The invasion of Kuwait by Iraq took place on August 2nd 1990

Burgan burning oil fields. Oil tanks set ablaze by Iraqi invaders spew clouds of black smoke.

An oil storage tank at a refinery that was attacked by coalition aircraft during Operation Desert Storm continues to burn days after the air strike. The refinery is located approximately seven miles west of the Kuwaiti border.

The invasion was followed by the Allied intervention under operation Desert Storm.
The Allies finally liberated Kuwait on February 27th 1991, after 7 months of occupation and 5 weeks of war.
